What is the London Emission Zone?

Commercial vehicles with an older engine than Euro 3 will be required to pay an entry fee to of £200 to travel inside Greater London. Failure to do so will incur a fine of £500.

Generally, most vehicles built before October 2001 will not be automatically compliant. However, some of these older vehicles may still meet the emissions standard but would need to be certified at a VOSA test station (currently at £28). Vehicles that fail may be modified but in some cases the cost of doing so may be prohibitive: the owner may decide it is preferable to replace the vehicle with a newer one.

3.5t vans will be governed by the LEZ rules from 03/01/2012.
